Hirsch & Westheimer recognizes October 23 as Texas Paralegal Day

by Montye Holmes

The State Bar of Texas was the first bar association in the United States to create a separate paralegal division, and since 2005 our Texas legislature has recognized October 23 as Texas Paralegal Day. In celebration, Hirsch & Westheimer, PC honors our paralegals and legal professionals, and specifically recognizes those who currently hold leadership positions with the Houston Paralegal Association (“HPA”). The HPA was started in 1999 by several Houston area professional paralegals, including our own Barbara Howell, as a professional association dedicated to providing Continuing Legal Education, as well as volunteer and networking opportunities. Montye Holmes, President-Elect of the HPA for the 2015-2016 calendar year, is a Rice University Paralegal graduate and has worked in the legal field for over 30 years. Prior to her new position with the HPA, Ms. Holmes served as co-chair of the HPA’s annual CLE and as co-chair of its job bank fair. Dana Ducote holds the position of Secretary and Sheri Anderson is the First Vice President – CLE.

To mark the occasion of Texas Paralegal Day, our paralegals and legal professionals attended the HPA’s luncheon on October 22, 2015, in which the Hon. Mark Davidson, MDL judge and judge (retired) of the 11th District Court, spoke on the topic of “A Historical Perspective of Litigation in Harris County” and then on October 23rd, enjoyed a firm-wide “sweet celebration” of their service.
