Michael Wilk Facilitates At The AAA Arbitrator Continuing Education Course Entitled Red Flags And Risk Areas: Challenges To Arbitrator Authority

Michael Wilk, a mediator and arbitrator, was a facilitator at the AAA Arbitrator Continuing Education course entitled Red Flags and Risk Areas: Challenges to Arbitrator Authority, held at the AAA Regional Office in Houston, Texas on October 25, 2017. The interactive three hour course was well attended (to capacity) and well received by the participants, all of whom were experienced and knowledgeable arbitrators. The course included a review of statistics of challenges to different statutory grounds for vacating arbitration awards and emphasized Exceeded Powers challenges and suggestions for minimizing potential Exceeding Powers challenges. Michael Wilk regularly speaks and publishes on topics in alternative dispute resolution, having formerly served as the chairman of the ADR Section for the State Bar of Texas, on the inaugural board of directors of the Association of Attorney Mediators and later as its National Director and National President, as the Director of the Harris County Dispute Resolution Center, and as the Chairman of Peer Mediations and Schools Task Force for the Houston Bar Association and the Houston Bar Association ADR Section.
